Background
David
L. King, AIA, CFM, LEED
AP
David
King spent more than 25
years in Corporate
America in facility
management and real
estate and in that time
has relocated countless
people and companies.
He has been a facility
project manager for The
American Medical
Association, FMC
Corporation, The
University of Chicago
and GE Commercial
Finance.
Dave
became interested in the
time and material waste
produced during the
moving process and began
to rethink the products
used by the moving
industry, which led him
to create
environmentally-friendly
products and practices
that would reduce waste,
improve the ROI on
equipment and improve
the moving and
relocation industry with
workflow best
practices. In 2001,
Dave created a line of
material handling
products, the first of
which was Samson Carts,
with a vision to help
facilities managers,
move managers, moving
companies, and furniture
installation companies
realize long term cost
savings, while
eliminating much of the
waste created.
In
2008 Samson Carts®
became the first
library/file cart to
awarded the
international
sustainability
certification Cradle To
Cradle, gold level.
In 2009 the Samson
Dollies®
product line rolled out.
Both product lines are
made in the Midwest of
the U.S. with material
sourcing within 500
miles.
Further, as part of
‘walking the talk’
Samson Products
purchases RECs for 100%
of its manufacturing
energy to invest in
renewable energy that
helps ensure clean
drinking water and
reduced deforestation
and diesel emissions for
cleaner air. Dave is
passionate for
protecting the planet
for future generations.
He
holds a B.A. in Liberal
Arts, with a minor in
business from DePaul
University. He has
continued his education
through coursework in
Leadership in Energy and
Environmental Design (LEED),
sustainable supply chain
management and
entrepreneurialism.
Dave shares his
experience with adult
learners at Northern
Illinois University as
an Instructor in IFMA
courses in Real Estate,
Finance, and The
Business of FM.
Dave is an Illinois
licensed Architect, Real
Estate broker, and an
